'Adolphe Rousseau' is a cheerful paeony, full of vibrancy with cerise coloured petals that open out to reveal a 'pot of gold' in its centre. The rich gold stamens contrast joyfully with the intense hue of the flower. Children would delight at these blooms, peering into partially opened flowers to discover 'the hidden treasure' when they visited 'Romswood'. Once a year, my husband's family farm was opened up to the public in celebration of the season. People travelled for miles to come.
