Exhibition - The Earth Speaks, 2017 - Artist Statement
Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote "the Earth smiles in flowers".
The Earth speak in blossoms, seasons, storms, rain, diversity, and verdant growth. Then, why is it groaning with human induced climate change and pollution causing coral bleaching, drought, flood, cyclonic wind, scorched earth, extinction of plants and animals, oceans swilling with plastic and the ice caps melting?
The Earth speaks to us in a myriad of ways. It's time to listen and act... or face our own extinction. Mary works with wax and wooden panels using encaustic methods, presenting us with her tribute to all the camping trips, treks, and walks in the mountains, deserts, open spaces and forests of Australia, Europe, Nepal, India, America and New Zealand.
Kate explores images of environmental destruction using watercolour on rice paper. She supports Greenpeace, The Wilderness Society and works in many other ways to help bring hope for the future health of our world.
The Earth Speaks exhibition was shown at Alternating Current Art Space, Windsor, Melbourne, VIC.
